MC5 Computers
Rugged PC Power in the Palm of Your Hand

The MC-Series rugged design allows you to take your computer where the action is, whether it's on the shop floor or out in the rain and snow. MC5 computers with built-in heaters allow operation at temperatures as low as -20°F and internal backlights let you keep on working even at night.

Widely used for over 10 years in the most demanding conditions, the environmentally sealed case allows the MC5 to work under the toughest of conditions--even submerged in water.

The MC5's long-lasting battery holds a charge for weeks (up to 120 hours between charges, yielding 15 eight-hour days of work) as opposed to many DOS machines whose battery lives are measured in hours.

MC5 = LARGE MEMORY
Configure your MC5 for as much as 8.96 Megabytes!!
Each MC5 hand-held computer comes standard with 384K RAM for application run-time memory and data storage. For applications that need even larger storage requirements, this memory can be optionally expanded with:

  • Plug-in 128 kilobyte RAM Modules
  • Plug in 128 kilobyte EPROM Modules
  • Internal RAMDISKs - 1 Megabyte, 2 Megabyte, 4 Megabyte and 8 Megabyte

Operating System and Programming Languages
ROS is a powerful operating system.  CMT-ROS (ROM Operating System) is a DOS-like operating system. ROS uses familiar DOS commands like DIR, CD, COPY, DEL, VIEW, RUN, DATE, TIME, etc. Features of the ROS include:

  • Programmable in many popular PC languages -- GWBASIC, dBASE III, Lotus 1-2-3, and Microsoft 'C'.
  • Low-overhead - CMT-ROS, the operating system and application programs do not have to be copied into system RAM to run, reducing RAM requirements.
  • Long battery life - CMT-ROS's built-in power management system extends the MC5's battery life to weeks rather than days or hours.
  • CMT-ROS can be operated in both MENU and COMMAND LINE modes. It also features multiple pop-up windows, built-in alarm management and script (batch) file control commands. CMT-ROS supports TEXT, TINY TEXT and GRAPHICS MODE.

Input/Output and Communications
The MC5 is a versatile data collector and can be configured for a variety of entry needs!

  • Key directly through the MC5's water-proof, tactile 55-key keyboard
  • Dual (Com1 and Com2) DB9 RS-232 ports standard
  • Enter data through a bar code reader or other dimensional measurement device
  • Standard Kermit and XMODEM file transfer protocols built-in
  • Communicate with PCs, mini or mainframe computers, printers, plotters and modems

The MC5 can capture bar code data with either a wand, a regular or long-distance laser scanner or CCD scanner. A powerful built-in "ctty" wedge command allows you to read entries from these devices just as if they were typed in from the keypad directly.
